Winpwn 2.5 is out and does quite a few things. It pwns, it quickpwns, it handles all the latest firmwares. It will unlock your 2g as well. Here are a series of guides to help you. Here is the latest download link at theiphoneproject.org. For updated winpwn news and download links see winpwn’s main site.
To help you pick which mode to use, use this:
Basic Mode - This is “easy” mode and uses default settings. It asks you questions as you need and eliminates your need to make complicated decisions. This requires a restore. You will build a custom firmware image as part of the process.
Expert Mode - This is like basic mode but gives you more control over the process. Since it is expert mode, you are expected to know what you are doing. I will cover a few points but I will not baby step through this with a full guide. Honestly, if you need such a guide, you should not be using expert mode.
Quickpwn - This mode will do a pwning of your device without a restore. It is for phones that are already working and you just want to jailbreak. If you have to restore anyway, use one of the other modes instead.
TroubleShooting:
Q) There are no images in custom images online.
A) Try again later. The servers may be hammered and not responsive. This is a temporary issue.
Q) It made my custom firmware and I cannot find it. Where is it?
A) You can search for .ipsw in the windows search box. It is probably in “my documents”. It starts with custom.
Q) Winpwn crashes during creating a custom firmware (just closes out) and no firmware file is made.
A) Follow expert mode and up your partition size to 700mb.
Q) I followed the steps and now my 3g no longer has service.
A) You probably selected activation during the process. You need iTunes to activate your 3g. Redo the steps.

Hi, I’m trying to figure out why i am unable to connect to itunes now that I loaded winpwn 2.5. I am using 2.0.2 firmware. I get an error message saying that an invalid response was received from the device.
So I am running XP. I did load Itunes 8. Also, i was reading a forum about others with this problem. They say to delete the unlock folder?
The other info i read is that Apple strikes back against jail breakers and possibly needing a patch?
Any real solutions for me?
Thanks

You wont lose your stuff if you quickpwn.

ah right. squpix @ #winpwn has pointed out that quickpwn doesnt actually update the fw itself anyway; only patches binaries that are the same in existing
zllak Reply:

That’s normal.
QuickPwn just “pwn” the already installed firmware, to go from an unjailbroken firmware to a jailbroken one with cydia/installer.
Quickpwn doesn’t upgrade the firmware.
To pwn a 2.0.2 using QuickPwn, you have to install the 2.0.2 before Quickpwn.

For all those that are having problems with winpwn 2.5 closing when 3/4 through building IPSW i have a solution for you.
When running winpwn run it in expert mode and change the root partion to 700mb, it will then work perfectly.

I always have the same problem restoring it on any versions from 2.0 - 2.0.2 FW.
based on my experience if you get error(6) on any restore using 2.0+ firmware you will have to downgrade it to 1.1.4 before restoring again to 2.0+ FW.
follow steps on downgrading 2.0 - 1.1.4 FW

In “mail” under mailboxes you have the 3 typical headings:

Can you make other folders to “save” items you don’t want in your inbox but you don’t want to delete either?

Hey Jesse, I have the same problem. My Cydia and Installer are missing. Everything went well, no error messages, no freezing up. But no Cydia or Installer. If you find answer can you please let me know.

All of your media and other data will be erased, and the newest version of the iPhone software will be installed.
does this mean i will lose all my numbers by upgrading?

hey Jesse, have you added them to your ipsw before you compiled it? If you did, remember that you need to hold down shift and click restore in iTunes. When the window pops up, browse to wherever you saved the ipsw and select it. Hope that helps!
lol also check out my website http://www.michael-source.tk for iPhone/iPod stuff.

Expert mode doesn’t build the ipsw file it just sits there. However, basic mode works fine..Am I missing something?

Did I get you right that expert mode doesn’t build a correct .ipsw-file? -That would be the answer why it doens’t work with my iPhone…

For me with expert mode it just sits while it says building but nothing builds. Try Basic mode it works for me easy.

I gave it up to change to 2.0.2 with WinPWN 2.5.
I can’t build a working custom file (always error 6 - yes I was in DFU-mode).
