Two Cool Apps

Two cool apps were released today:

Backgrounder - This is a SpringBoard addon that allows you to configure specific applications to continue to run in the background.  This is actually pretty significant. Now you can download apps like Palringo and Rooms in appstore and configure them to run in the background after you hit home. Note: I am adding this to the list of reasons to jailbreak.

Vibrus - This is a SpringBoard addon that gives you some force feedback when pressing keys on your keyboards. It’s configurable for force and duration of vibration. (Doesn’t yet work on 3g).

If you have QuickGold installed, then you can’t do Backgrounder ‘on the fly’ by holding the home/menu button.

Since Qucikgold immediately launched it’s launch screen.

Any ideas how to make this work together?

I Downloaded backgrounder this morning, and so far, I love it!!!

The first thing I did was “background” my Categories folders. Now, my apps are immediately available when I select a folder. Background with Categories loaded (once for each folder) appears to take 0% CPU (as attested to with “top”) It DOES take memory though so that may be an issue.

I have QuickGold and Backgrounder installed on the same iPhone V1. QuickGold works when I’ am on the SpringBoard. When I want to background an app I clic on the main button that when running the app. In this case, QuickGold never appears on my iphone… so on my phone, there no problem to run them together. Do I do something wrong ?

So, can someone please tell Fring!? We want their Skype-for -iPhone tool back! I know, I know - they have to recode the thing, probably. Backrounder just reminded me of the awesomeness of Fring on 1.1.4.

Backgrounder does not have an icon. To activate it, open the application and then push/hold the home button for about 2-3 seconds. A popup will notify you that the application is being backgrounded, and upon the release of the button, the app closes into the background. To remove from background, simply perform the same action as activation.

This app is just great. But I think we need a simple app that shows open apps and can kill them. Shortly it will do what “top” does with GUI.

Hmmmm…Quickgold now works like it should, only when at Springboard, so Backgrounder is working.

I love backgrounding the Categories Folders!

Used to take 3-5 seconds to ‘open’ one, now it is 1 second, tops

It doesnt work with ‘Internet Radio Tuner’, it causes a crash back to springboard :(

    Eric P Reply:

Hmm, Tuner works fine. You need to be listening to a station before applying Backgrounder.

Categories doesn’t work. If you keep a folder running, it opens quickly. But the moment you open a program in that folder, the folder shuts down and the program runs. If you quit the program and touch the folder it looses it’s background running abilities.

Just a note of caution - there is a bug with Backgrounder and applications that show notification bubbles (eg. facebook, fring etc.). With backgrounder installed, you will get a ‘0′ notification bubble with these apps.

See the bug logged here: http://code.google.com/p/iphone-backgrounder/issues/list?updated=4&ts=1223072440

I have a question: I unlocked my iPhone 3G with a SIM Adapter and it’s been working perfectly so far. I can make, receive calls, send SMS,.. just everything.. why is every website (except the ones that sell the SIM Adapter) claiming, that the Sim Adapter doesnt work when it actually DOES work? For those interested, dont bother to buy a SIM Adapter with a specific Retailer, they are ALL the same!

Same problem as Handsfull with Vibrus. I have a 2g running 2.1. upon install, I get a message box saying Source Error Size Mismatch. It sends me back to Cydia and the app is not installed. Tried several times with reboot.
