Supported iPhone FW for this Guide: 2.0-2.1
For those of you that like quickpwn but want a GUI, there is one now. This is for those that are not planning to restore. Quickpwn now activates and unlocks a 2g so it is a perfect all-in-one solution.
Step 0: This guide assumes you are already running the firmware on your iPhone that you want to jailbreak. If you need to upgrade in iTunes first, please read my upgrade guide. There is very important information here regarding the update process and how to get your content back easily.
Step 1: Download this quickpwn and extract it. For this guide, we will use c:\quickpwn. If you are unlocking a 2g, download bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6 and put them in the same folder.
Step 2: Load iTunes and make sure it sees your phone. Leave iTunes running and do not touch it again. For 2.1, you will need iTunes 8 installed. You can get it and any iTunes version here.
Step 3: Download the proper firmware image (see firmwares page here for firmware of your choice). Save this image in the same folder with the quickpwn.exe file. For our example we will use c:\quickpwn. Your folder should now look like this (with your updated quickpwn exe in it):

Step 4: Launch quickpwn GUI.

Step 5: Select your device and hit the arrow at the bottom of the window.

Step 6: Click Browse

Get to your c:\quickpwn folder and select your firmware.

It should show you this when you are done:

Click the Blue arrow
Step 7: At the next screen, you are prompted to choose Cydia and Installer. Both are selected by default. You must select Cydia or your jailbreak will be useless. Installer is not a replacement for Cydia, is not ready, and has almost no packages. In addition, there is still a huge buglist in installer. In short, choose Cydia. This shouldn’t even be a choice. Select Cydia. Select installer if you want to but don’t forget Cydia. Note, you can also select to replace your bootlogos here if you wish.
If you are not unlocking, skip to step 8.
Step 7a: Unlocking only - If you are unlocking your 2g, select “unlock” here as well. If you are already unlocked and just want to activate, still select “unlock” here. (For understanding of unlock vs activate, read this).
Step 7b: Unlocking only - Select your bootloaders that you downloaded in step #1.

Step 8: Click “Go”

Step 9: Wait. You will see some stuff go by on the screen:

Then you will be prompted to turn off your phone and press enter when you have done so:

Step 10) As it says on screen, turn off your phone by holding power, sliding to power off, and waiting for it to power off. Do not take the phone off the pc connection! If you do, you must start over.
Note: If you are being asked “Is your iPhone/iPod connected to your computer via USB” it is because you did not load iTunes and let it see your phone before starting. At this point it’s too late and you must start start back at step 8.
Step 11) In this next step we need to get our phone into DFU mode so it can be pwned. If you have any problems following the onscreen instructions, then refer to this DFU guide. The program will help you through the steps but it often takes multiple attempts to get into DFU mode. And, if you fail to get into DFU mode, the app quits and you must start over at step 8.
Therefore, I recommend that you get into DFU mode before hitting ENTER. Read the DFU guide link and press enter when you are in DFU mode. Then ignore the directions on the screen until it recognizes your phone is in DFU mode. When you are in DFU mode, the app should automatically take over and you will see this:
Wait a bit for the process to finish, and congratulations! You are done.
Step 12) Optional 2g phone only. If you need to unlock your phone, install bootneuter from Cydia and run it! Select “neuter, unlock, do not change bootloader settings, and then flash!”.

The jailbreak should work fine and fast x you as it did for me.
Uninstall any versions of Winpwn that you might have installed.
Restart your computer

Can I use this guide if I am on 1.1.4 or do I need to update my iPhone 2G to 2.0/2.0.1 first before doing this?

Just an FYI - I’m the developer of the GUI - the QuickPwn GUI bundle is self-contained so you don’t need to put it in the same directory as the extracted old version of QuickPwn.

Use the 2.0.1 ipsw. The app crashes when trying to hash the 2.0.2 file. Works nicely with the 2.0.1 file. No hiccups so far, and the phone certainly is more responsive. And Cydia works as ever before.

Can anyone gimme a little help…
I have a 2G iPhone and have upgraded from 1.1.4 to 2.0, then to 2.0.1. My 1.1.4 was unlocked and I used Ziphone and Winpwn programs to unlock after I started to experience wifi problems. NOW with 2.01 version I have used Quickpwn and also winpwn and the final result is that I lost carrier connection, so I’m assuming that my iPhone is Jailbroken but not unlocked.
Does QuickPwn and/or WinPwn for 2.0 or higher versions of firmware UNLOCK the iPhone or only JAIBREAK it ?
I URGENTLY need to UNLOCK my iPhone, since I have had the dumb idea to upgrade from1.1.4 a month and a half ago, I’ve been out of a phone…
Can anyone lend a hand ?….

BIG PROBLEMS WITH UPDATE:
I lost ALL MY NATIVE ICONS - ENTIRE DOCK IS BLANK! CYDIA AND INSTALLER ICONS GONE TOO!
Here’s my order of steps so you have them all.
- Factory 2.0.1 3G iPhone
- WinPwn 2.0.0.4 to get Cydia
- Goofed around with it, hid my calculator to BossPrefs for example, changed “carrier name.”
- Upgraded to fw 2.0.2 - knew this would “unpwn” my phone, figured I could wait for custom apps until new 2.0.2 pwn came out.
- Upgrade went ok, said I had 2.0.2. My calculator icon vanished, so I got a 3rd party one, no big deal. Carrier name still set to my name, with “make it mine” app gone, so no way to change it back, again, no prob.
- Used QuickPwn 2.0.2, got it into DFU mode, no problems, phone restored with Cydia and Installer on the Spring Board. Everything looked fine, contacts, call log, all that stuff still around.
- Opened Cydia, told me it needed to upgrade essential files, 3 of them, didn’t catch which.
- Cydia told me to turn off and restart. I did, and when it came back to the Spring Board, ALL MY ICONS WERE GONE! VANISHED! POOF!
I am currently performing a restore, then an upgrade to 2.0.2 (if it doesn’t restore to the newest), syncing my tunes, and pwning it again with a vengeance.
Yeah, I’m lame - just figured I’d warn everyone and ask for any ideas in case the restore bricks it.

Went through the whole thing and everything worked fine - except:
I was running 2.0.1 and used this to go to 2.0.2
I downloaded the 2.0.2 firmware and used it with quickpwn
Once the process completed, the phone is still saying it’s running 2.0.1
What did I screw up?

I am a PC user. I have been trying to do this for hours on end. I bought my iphone a few days ago RETAIL NEW. It is a new AT&T 3g with the 2.02 firmware. I have followed these directions over and over. I hear the audible alerts on the connecting and disconnections and my phone goes dark but after the timer runs out on the 30 seconds it closes and nothing happens. have tried all the different methods on the DFU guide and it seems to be doing what it is meant to do but still its not working. What could I be doing wrong. I have never had issues with hacks or mods in the past but this is kicking my ass. Any help would be great and would gladly make a donation to any team if there method is successful. I am only interested in putting 3rd party apps on my phone more than anything and I was wondering is there any other safe method of doing so such as QuickPwn.

Once I got it working your method of putting the phone in DFU mode worked the first try versus going by the on screen instructions. I tried several times by the method in the GUI and then tried yours and it worked like a charm. Anyway, I am now jailbroken and I Thank the Dev Team and anyone else involved. Did you tru putting phone in DFU mode instead of typing y and hitting enter. I had trouble until I went with the first guide on DFU mode. I did as it says and then the program went on it’s own. I totally disregarded the instructions in the GUI for this as it did not work for me. I would try re-downloading everything and trying this. Just in case the phone does nothing for a bit, it does not come on or anything. You might think it is not working, but you will hear the prompt from your PC telling you it is. Maybe you are not letting it go through? Mine took about 3 minutes.

after you have updated go to c:/documents and settings/Admin/Application Data/ Apple Computer/ITunes/Ipod Software Updates. The Ipsw will be in there make sure you can see hidden files. Or you won’t be able to find it.

@Mario Don’t know why the WiFi is not showing. Mine is connected and I jailbroke today. Did you download the latest one? I heard there were problems with Wifi on previous versions.Maybe restore and begin again, or it is something else. Mine has worked perfectly, but I only installed Cydia, and updated all Cydia updates right away.
@DYK Your looking in the worng location it would be in your AppData Folder unless you downloaded and saved it to desk top. Easiest way is to download with itunes install and then use the GUI.
If you can’t find AppData it might be because the folder is hidden. You will have to change the setting in Folder Options(Control Panel),under view check off view hidden files and folders.
AppData is located under C:\Users\ComputerName
Iphone firmware under C:\Users\ComputerName\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
If it is not there then you have not downloaded through iTunes.

Hello folks. I was really hoping someone could help me.
I have a 1st gen iPhone. Right now I am still on a jailbroken 1.1.4 firmware. I wish to upgrade to 2.X.
I am unclear as to how to activate and unlock my phone using either WinPwn or QuickPwn.
Once I restore my iPhone to say 2.0, my iPhone is no longer activated, or unlocked, and I am not able to make any calls or reach the springboard.
I originally jailbroke/activated/unlocked my iPhone with ZiPhone which downgraded my bootloader to 3.9. With an upgrade to 2.0, the bootloader is again upgraded.
I had one hell of a time trying to jailbreak prior to this reply and had to resort in using KiPhone to downgrade my bootloader so I was able to restore to 1.1.4.
Can anyone who has successfully upgraded their iPhone from 1.1.4 to 2.X, jailbroke/activate/unlock please explain how it was done?
The guide above althouh informative is just no clear on what 1st gen users are to do.

To have 2.0.2 FW jalibroken with this, you need to have 2.0.2 FW on your device THEN use this to jailbreak it
“If you want to update to 2.0.2 then use the normal iTunes update to get to 2.0.2 and then use QuickPwn to Pwn, Jailbreak and Activate, remember that the 2.0.2 update includes a baseband update for the 3G iPhone, so depending what your long term intentions are for the phone, update wisely, of course in the upcoming PwnageTool application you’ll be able to create a custom ipsw without the baseband update enabled.”
I had the same problem.

I have a 1st gen iphone that I unlocked and jailbroke with winpwn 2.0.0.4 previously and used quickpwn on today not only did it work flawlessly but I didnt have to go through cydia to unlock it, it stayed unlock at the end of the process from my previous unlock with winpwn these were my exact steps.
1. with my first gen iphone (unlocked and jailbroken) 2.0.1 version, I went through itunes and upgraded to 2.0.2, my phone was still unlocked at this point but not jailbroken.
2. Installed and ran quickpwn as instructed using the 2.0.2 file as my ipsw, giving me a jailbroken/unlocked first gen iphone w/ software 2.0.2 installed :)
3. Restored my backup from itunes all my info is back, and I did appbackup before this process so i didnt have to reinstall all my third party apps.
Thanks for a great and easy aplication. :)

So if my fw is 2.0.2 i should select that one in QiKPawn…right ?

Can i say that since 3G unlock software is currently unavailable, will it be wise to use the sim-card unlock adapter for the time being? Cos we really wun know when the software will be ready right… What if i used the simcard adaptor that needs to cut my simcard, and after which, when the dev team is ready, i install the new pwning software for unlock. Will my sim-card be rendered useless then?
Reallly need some advice here as i already have the sim card adapter that allows me to unlock the phone, bad pt is that i have to cut a corner off my sim-card. But if i dun do this, i dunno how long i have to leave my new 3g lying ard waiting?????
