This quick update of BossPrefs provides a couple small fixes:
First, I found a way (thanks to Erica Sadun) to toggle EDGE without resetting the Comm Center. This makes the EDGE toggle nice and fast, ans you won’t have to reenter your SIM pin (I think).
Secondly, I fixed a bug on adding icons to the dock. Some would crash such as Settings icon. This only occurred when the plist was binary. All fixed.

hey BigBoss, i have a problem. i have updated to 2.08b but for some reason now poof (that cme with BossPrefs) wont let me hide ipod app. second problem is, if Bossprefs is hidden using poof the double tap home doesnt work but if it is visible it will. the only way i can launch it is via AppFlow if hidden

The double tap home is a known issue. Im not sure you want to hide the ipod app. I bet you cant play any music if you do. I need to modify the way I hide the 4 apps that go into “restrictions” in springboard as well as the bossprefs app itself when set to doubletap home.

Great work guys! Any chance you can make it so we can add more than 4 apps to the bottom dock? Would be be awesome if you gave us another row of docks, so the total would be eight apps below. This would save me room on the first page by adding more apps, like clock, settings, photos, TEXT, things i don’t want people playing around with. Thanks again

The dock scrolls. You can add up to I think 20 icons. But there is a bug in 2.0 versions where you can no longer scroll the icons when touching a picture so you have to touch the text below the picture of the space between the pictures to scroll. Sort of sucks.

How are you determining whether or not it is turned off? The E will not go away you have to try to access the web. As soon as I try it using the toggle, I get “safari cannot access this page” type message.

It makes no difference here when i toggle off EDGE.
I can still surfing with safari even if EDGE is set to off in BossPrefs.
Have to restart after i set EDGE to off. Then safari give me the “safari cannot access this page” message.
Before the 2.08b update it worked impeccable.
Hmm. Strange, but it seems i am not the only one. I’ve read from other ppl with same problem.

BigBoss, after updating to 2.08b it seems that my edge just stopped completely working. I never turned edge off via boss prefs but as soon as it installed and I closed out cydia my edge logo was gone and I can only use wifi to connect to internet. I repwned multiple times, set it up as a new iphone each time, and also uninstalled and reinstalled boss prefs. Any idea what I could do to rectify the problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

The install process only copies files. It does not run any of the EDGE changes. So I do not think the install was at fault here.
People are reporting this issue commonly using a 3g unlocked with an iSim type device. Does this apply to you? If so, make sure you have set data roaming to enabled.

Thanks for the reply. I have an 8 GB 1G on AT&T. I used pwnage 2.0 the first day it was available and my edge worked basically until the last update for boss prefs and i believe APT, Thats why I figured it had to do something with boss pref, Its as if it turned edge off but the switch is in the on position. I SSHed in to my phone and added the advanced edge settings and it has wap.cingular as the apn with no username and password but from what I’ve seen that is normal.

After restarting my phone a few times I have an icon where the edge icon would be and it has the blue rectangle shape but it has a white circle in the middle and not the white E. It still does not connect however.

That is GPRS. It happens when your signal is too crappy to get full EDGE.

Ahh okay, never saw that before. I’ve never not had Edge so thats why I didn’t know what it was. You said that boss prefs does not run any of the edge changes, which program does? Is it possible that the Comm Center needs to be reset? I’m basically just grasping at straws, I’m just trying to figure out what happened. Thanks

The Edge fix sounds good, if you manage to find a way to do the same thing with 3G you will have accomplished pure awesomeness, not to mention i know several other iPhone 3G users who will jailbreak immediately just for that!
One other thing i’d like to request is if there is anyway to make it so that the Reboot function doesn’t screw up the “Time since last full charge” information in Usage, for some reason it blanks them out until the next full charge whereas just turning the phone off and on again leaves them fine.

*When editing dock icons there is no moving them.
*When editing dock icons power and poof are always there even when disabled.
*Not really a bug but, can put appstore icons on the dock :(

Any chance you can release the ability to turn off the wireless\bluetooth\3G app that you made to the app store. I just bought an iphone and a friend with a jailbroke phone showed this to me. I think it’s a very usefull app for easily saving my battery life, but I’m not comfortable with hacking my phone. I hope you can find a way to publish it, I’d be willing to drop a couple bucks to be able to easily turn on and off my wireless options on one easy to use screen.

No. No app like this will ever be in AppStore. It violates a bunch of apple’s rules. In fact there are so many great apps out that can never be in appstore for this reason. You should read the guides here and get over your fear of hacking. You cant break anything. Worst case you just restore in itunes and you’re back to where you started.

I have the same problem with BossPrefs 2.08b as others already mentioned above. Although switching Edge off and it is shown as Off in BossPrefs I can still go online using Edge.
Also when switching on or off Edge with BossPrefs, the line showing Wifi is dimmed while the wheel in the Edge row is spinning.

Hey BigBoss, I got a problem. So I made Cydia and BossPrefs hidden thinking the double tap would work even if hidden, like it did on 1.1.4. Now I can’t get to either Cydia or BossPrefs, I can however with iPhoneBrowser browse the files on the phone. Is there a file I can either delete or edit to make this go away? Thanks.

There was a post on the 2.0.6b thread by ‘HDClown’ (see the original here: http://sleepers.net/news/2008/08/02/updates-and-additions-2/#comment-2513), but that thread was superceded by this one for 2.0.8b. So I wanted to bring this forward to make sure it didn’t get lost in the shuffle.
That post (and my supporting comment) has to do with extending BossPrefs to save the configuration results into multiple, distinct ‘profiles’ - possibly creating icons for each, or listing them in a menu for selection. This would allow users to set up one set of options (sounds, volume, radio settings, etc.) for one particular situation, and a different set of options for others.
My concerns are office-related: I’m in my office, so I don’t need notifications for e-mail (since I’m at my computer). So I’d like one profile that turns off notifications for e-mail - and also reduces ring volume. When I leave my office to go to a different location, I want those notifications back on - but I may want different ringtones and volumes depending on where I am going (meetings, a co-worker’s desk, leaving work, etc.). I may even want different radio options - leaving 3G on may be overkill if I know I won’t be browsing in a given time & place.
So profiles with different combinations pre-set for each would save me the trouble of hand-adjusting each variable in each different time/place. Right now, to the best of my knowledge, there is nothing out there that even approximates this in the iPhone world. If someone could make profiles work in a clean and straightforward way, it would resolve a number of issues for new, business-oriented users.

Excellent app. Same problem as a lot of other people though, Edge still works even if it’s set to Off in BossPrefs. Happens with both new and old method. Any chance of an update that turns off Edge?

Sorry you’re having problems. The EDGE is now set to how it has “always been”. If you have EDGE issues using the “old method” you should reboot the phone and try again. I actually have not had a lot of issues of problems with the old method. And I just tested it here and its working for me using both methods. Therefore, there is no fix on the horizon…. (working on other things anyways).
A couple of things to note:
1) The E never goes away. You cannot use that to determine if it works. You must try to surf the web.
2) If the toggle does not move to OFF and stay to OFF when you go back into bossprefs, then there is some other issue. A reboot usually solves it. A few folks have reported this occasionally and always manage to get it to start working without me ever doing anything for them.

however it just disable establishing new link, while the existing link is still alive, we can still transfer data..via 3g
the scenario is:
3g -on, edge -on
1. use safari
2. link establish say IP: 10.100.xxx.xx
3. toggle edge off

Hi. Great job!
Would it be possible to include an option to easily turn on/off push email? Even better, would be really awesome to be able to add some sort of scheduling for the push service, e.g. schedule for turning it off at night and turn it on during working hours.
That will help increase battery life a lot I guess.

An excellent app, but a few glitches:
1 - cannot reorganize icons/apps in the little bottom dock through the handle on the left side. supposed to allow them to be moved up and down after you press it for a moment.
2 - the dock at the bottom of Boss Prefs does not slide properly all of the time. seems to have some serious problem going on there and often i have to restart.
3 - can you make it start faster? kind of a hassle having it a little slow although having all config related or system tool related apps a the bottom on that dock is handy. perhaps you could also make the dock more of a shelf with two levels of icons if a user wants.

Ever since upgrading to 2.12b my edge and 3G toggles do not function at all. I can turn them on or off and no change happens. If I toggle 3G off I still have teh 3G icon and am still able to browse the web. Same scenario with Edge only.

it appears that the packages in the ‘com’ folder doesn’t seem to have been in cydia.
These packages include Categories, MxTube, NES, Searcher and TuneWiki.
so is Snapture, but that’s under the ‘Org’ folder

SOLUTION FOR BROKEN 3G / EDGE ON 2.* (including 2.1)
Installed the latest bossprefs on a jb 2.1 (iPhone 3g) and I could no longer use 3G or EDGE.
I fixed this by going into Settings > Reset > Reset network settings
