I updated BossPrefs today to v2.0.6b for firmware 2.0 only. This version adds some new features for hiding icons. This paves the way for Categories which I plan to start on immediately. Here are the formal changes:
For those of you that do not use BossPrefs, Poof has been updated to v2.10 for firmware 2.0 only with the same changes. Note: for anyone that has both apps installed, you must update both or you will have problems with hidden icons that one app hides and the other cannot unhide.
NES app was updated a few days ago and somehow I managed to totally mess up the update and it never got posted. Now I have posted v2.3.0. It adds accelerometer support (excellent!).
Neverball has been updated to v1.4.1. The main changes here are to update the data files used to allow for NeverPutt. (Note:Neverball is now calld NeverballME).
NeverPutt ME has been released. This is a nice Putt-Putt golf game based on the Neverball engine. Check it out!

You can poke around the BossPrefs.app folder and change them out. But be aware that updates may overwrite these files and you may have to keep doing it….

is there a reason why i can no longer slide the dock icons in bossprefs? the only icons i can access now are the initial 4 i have set up on there.

It’s a known issue and has to do with the 2.0 SDK I’m using. You can slide them if you manage to touch between the icons or underneath them. The icon pictures aren’t passing the touch delegate to the underlying slider.

With this update, if I hide the Boss Prefs icon using the Poof inside Boss Prefs, the double tap home to open Boss Prefs does nothing. For Boss Prefs to open on a double tap the icon must be showing.

Wow, you’re right. Springboard refuses to launch via double tap a restricted app. Thanks for noticing this. I will have to consider how to work around it (if possible).

Yep I’m having the same problem, I’m locked outta BossPrefs, and Poof, 2 great apps! The way I had it setup, the only way to access BossPrefs was double tap home, and I Poof’d the BossPrefs icon from the Springboard. And the Poof icon was in BossPrefs, lol. Thanks very much for making these programs and btw, much appriciated!

Weird. After updating to the latest Cydia last night, my NetNewsWire would crash at launch. I did everything I could to fix it. Immediately after I installed your updates, NetNewsWire began working again..

It’s not caused by the updates. It’s caused by Springboard being extremely buggy in 2.0 :(

Is there any chance that we’ll be seeing a toggle for sound effects in an upcoming version? Just wondering because I have a touch and like sound effects, but they freak out my dog. I have to go into the menu thing to turn them off every time i get home.

I don’t know of any way to do it. Do you use the side mute button? I am going to focus on other things now like Categories app and getting the scrolling dock working properly in bossprefs.

It sorts in no order, sort of. It enumerates the folders in /Applications in order but renames some things like “Contacts” is really “MobileAddressBook” so it shows up in the slot where that would be. After its done, it starts over and enumerates in /var/mobile/Applications for appstore apps. In the future I can add sorting.

I don’t use poof, and I have only used the hide icons toggle in BossPrefs, but I can’t seem to unhide any apps I’ve hidden using the new bossprefs hide icons. The only way I can unhide apps is changing the parental restrictions and starting over again, re-hiding everythig else. Is this a bug?

Sure just use the dock icons button and add it. I have Winterboard’s icon on my bossprefs dock.
I am going to fix the next version of BossPrefs to so that Winterboard will work with it. All you will have to do is add a folder in your winterboard theme and add the icons you want to replace there.

Perhaps I discoverd a bug:
I use BossPrefs (2.07b) with a iPhone MB384LL under Version 2.0 (5A347). If I disable EDGE with BossPrefs, I can’t use the “Telefon”-Button. The Applications freezes and returns to “Home”. Nothing works in this case. When I turn Edge on again, everything is ok.

if i toggle wifi on, the phone app crashs along with the contacts. i did three full restores and still got the same error every time.
once you toggle wifi on, the phone button refuses to work and throws you back to springboard.
im using a first gen iphone with fw 2.0

Hey BigBoss, is there a way for you to add a “profiles” section to BigBoss. This would basically be a way to setup quick-access settings to adjust “Settings/Sounds”. Basically a step towards BlackBerry profiles.
As an example, in BossPrefs, I can create a profile called “Phone Only” which would be a 1 click setting that would update Settings/Sounsd to have the settings under “Ring” so that new VM, new mail, sent mail, calendar alerts, lock sounds, and keyboard clicks would all turn OFF, leaving the only sound the phone makes to be the actual ringer for an inbound call. You would also be able to define the actual sounds used based on the 1-click profile settings.

I second, third and fourth this. This issue (no multiple profiles, only ‘Ring’ and ‘Silent’ on the iPhone) has really put me off from getting the phone. It sounds silly, but I spent some time looking at how I actually use my cell phone, and I found that the thing that I do more than any one thing is change profiles.
If someone would come up with a simple & straightforward way to have a method of saving multiple settings (tones, vibrate, volume, radios) and then freely choosing between them, such as icons in a dock or menus/sub-menus under a program, I’d have no reason to hesitate about the iPhone.

Perhaps this has been mentioned before, but I’m having a problem w/ starting Settings from BossPrefs. I have settings in the BossPrefs dock, and whenever I click it the phone just returns to the springboard and the Settings app does not launch. Not a big deal, but I’m forced to keep the Settings icon un-poofed in order to access it. Anyone else have this problem? I’m on iphone 3g with the latest BossPrefs/Poof.

I have settings “poofed” and in the dock and it’s working ok. Can you try rebooting the phone and try it then? The thing is pretty odd about some things sometimes.

Tried rebooting before and after adding Services to the dock, but still have the same problem. Note I am poofing Services simply by adding it to the BossPrefs dock icons (automatically poofs the icon from springboard)… should I actually do it with the Poof app before adding it to the dock? Would that make a difference? If not, is there any log file or anything I can look at to see if there’s some kind of error going on?

Yes, you can enable the system log: http://sleepers.net/news/blank/enable-syslog-on-20/
Once you got that going, you can see the output in the sys log. I’d launch the settings and see what the crash says.

The last line upon trying to start Settings says:

Is that what is causing my problem? Nothing else looks like it could be an error.

Bigboss PLEASE LOOK INTO THE CRASHING PHONE APP PROBLEM (not yelling, just getting your attn). Like several other people posted here, everytime Edge is turned off, the Phone app doesn’t work. It seems to fail everytime wifi is used or if a call is received, or visual voicemail is received. I hope you can fix this problem because it is really annoying and the ability to turn on/off edge is very useful

My phone recently stopped ringing. I don’t know what i did, but it will not make any sounds. The only time it will make sounds are when I am in the settings menu changing them. The phone is not on silent, the ringer is turned all the way up, the music plays through the speaker, and I have no idea what to do or what I did. Can you tell me how to get my sound back??
