Well it’s still not available for Windows users officially, but what you can do is follow these instructions from Kinetic-X and NightCrow then load the pre-built custom firmware image. You will have to download a custom image. Find the appropriate “custom image” off the “custom image” section here.
Step 1: Use WinPWN 2.0.0.3 or later To PWN your 2.0 iPhone. If you need any help on this step, follow my winpwn 2.0 guide here. If you need to unlock, do so in this step. The update to 2.0.1 will not update your baseband.
Step 2: Grab a pre-created IPSW Made with PWNAGE 2.0.2 Mac. If you dont have one made you can grab one here off my firmware links in custom section.
Step 3:Put your phone into recovery or DFU mode. Note that some users report DFU works best while others are reporting normal recovery mode works best. If you have an error, try swapping modes and toggle between these two types of recovery until one works.
Step 4: In iTunes Shif+Click the Restore button and find your custom IPSW Firmware file.
Step 5: Wait for it to complete! ENJOY!

I have successfully done the upgrade as per your instructions and everything seems to work. I have one issue and I’m not sure how to resolve it. Under settings - network the tab to setup edge seems to be missing,and therefore can’t connect to the internet, any ideas.

Hey there, I messed up pretty bad. I tried to pwn my iPhone to 1.14 using the method mentioned above. But WinPwn never actually started pwning, so I used the recovery thingy from iTunes. Now my phone is locked, and when I try to pwn it with WinPwn it actually starts pwning, but it never finishes. After rebooting, after being pwned it shows the recovery image (plug –> iTunes) and won’t do a thing…
Did I completely screw my precious phone?
Help would be greatly appreciated

No you haven’t screwed it… I did the same. To clear the ‘locked’ symptom, upgrade to itunes 7.7 and when you plug in your iphone it will say that it has recognized an iphone in recovery mode and it will need to be restored. Then just click on restore and your away. It takes about 10 minutes but you will then have locked iphone running firmware 2.0. We just need to figure out how to unlock these now!

When you use winpwn, what BL should you be on for this to work? I’m on 4.6 BL and I keep getting an iTunes 1601 (or 1602 or 1600) unknown error, which seems to be an Apple error that just requires an uninstall and reinstall, but that doesn’t seem to help me. Thanks.

WARNING…. There are 2 firmware ipsw, one is for 3G and another for 2G…
You will screw it if you use the wrong one.

Wait, the IPSW linked at PirateBay must be a modified version of the real 2.0 IPSW for 1st Gen iPhones. How could it be a modified version of the 2.0 IPSW for the 3G iphone??
I think your comment holds no water, and the above steps in the method are valid - UNLESS the uploader of the modified IPSW had PWN’ed the wrong IPSW from Apple, which is possible, but very unlikely.

It’s a vanilla (default) file. Nothing really changed besides jailbreaked, unlocked. Bootnueter does its thing when the phone restarts but afterwards I ended up with the 4.6 baseband.. or so I’m assuming.

I am Uploading the custom firmware to rapidshare, and will be putting up the link once its uploaded(0:55 left). So i tried this and it works flawlessly, really easy to do. I didnt install bootneuter on my 1.1.4 to neuter the phone since my Iphone couldnt catch my neighbors wireless signal. Although the custom firmware has bootneuter on it, and it automatically neuters your phone for you!!:-)

For those who took this option, as did I, what you need to do is to unrar the files into a folder, and then ZIP the contents of that folder into a file.
You are NOT zipping the folder, but the CONTENTS of the folder. You can give this file name any name you want. When it is finished, you will have a file name ending in ZIP.
What you need to do is to rename this file so that it ends in .IPSW intead of .ZIP.
Do this in CMD if you can’t do it in Windows.
Anyway this is how I got iTunes to recognise the contents of the two RAR files, because when I first unrar’ed them I unded up with a folder!
Anyway I’m now happily on iPhone Firmware 2.0. I did do the BootNeuter first but it looks like you don’t need to do that because after the firmware is loaded the first thing it does is to run bootneuter 2.0 and re-flashes your baseband etc.
I downloaded BootNeuter 1.0 from the Installer.app just to be sure even though some people below said that it wasn’t necessary… I did it to be on the safe side but now I see that I didn’t need to do it. Oh well, it only took a few mins, so no big loss.

Hey guys thanks for the process, here’s what I did to get my iPhone working… I have the first gen iPhone and used Ziphone to unlock, jailbreak v1.1.4.
(Before I begin if I had to do the process again I would’ve backed up my iPhone before starting - some contacts and text messages were deleted as I had added them since my last backup.)
Anyhoo,
1. Downloaded WinPWN & 1.1.4 IPSW file (from Apple) & custom 2.0 IPSW file (from Pirate Bay)
2. Updated iTunes to 7.7
3. Connected iPhone to computer (I should’ve backed up my phone at this point). Then closed down iTunes.
4. Ran WinPWN, clicked on “Browse IPSW” and located 1.1.4 IPSW file that I downloaded.
5. WinPWN whirred away and then prompted to me enter “Recovery Mode”
6. I opened up iTunes and Shift+Clicked the Restore button under the iPhone tab, and then located the custom 2.0 IPSW file.
7. From this point I didn’t touch anything! iTunes and the iPhone whirred away and installed/updated my iPhone. Bootloader automatically installed (I found it took longer than the predicted 2 minutes to flash). And when everything was done iTunes asked if I wanted to restore my iPhone to the last back up which I assented to and clicked continue and then 5 minutes later my iPhone was backed up with all the text messages and contacts and notes.
8. When I clicked back on WinPWN the pop up had changed to “Your iPhone has been pwned!”
9. I sent a text message, made a phone call, received a phone call, Cydia loaded, App Store loaded - even bought and played Super MonkeyBall!

Thought this might be usefull info to some:
After carfully fallowing the instructions to the tee i kept getting error 1601. I tried restore and DFU mode with no luck…:( However, just clicking shift-restore and finding the vanialla ispw my fone seems to be restoring to jailbroke 2.0 now!!! Im excitied to play around with the 2.0 firmware… hopefully not too buggy llike i hear… fones restarting now…Bootneuter 2.0 popped up and it is flashing the baseband… seems like its working ill let u guys know if i run into any road blocks..

Hi guys,
No I never ran Bootneuter, I think it automatically ran with the bootloader prompt screen as I saw in the background the option to choose 3.6 and 4.5 (or whatever those two numbers are), but didn’t need to select or do anything… I just let it run, and waited patiently (more than the 2 minutes requested, probably ended up being 5 minutes)… and it eventually updated.

i went into winpwn and selected the old 1.1.4 fw and went to and ipwner amd then when itunes came up saying its in recovery mode i held shift and clicked restore and selected the custom fw

This could be because you didnt pre-pwn your 1.1.4 firmware. Try repwaning 1.1.4 then do the restore to 2.0

I got the same error but my phone is currently running the 2.0. I tried to pwn it in vain. It could not see the phone in recovery mode even though iTunes 7.7 detected the phone in recovery mode and prompted for a restore. I attempted restoring with the custom 3.0 but it did not work. I keep getting the error (6).
Oh! I am a windows users.

Is this the reson why the map locater aint working?
I chosse botloader 4.6 and it gave me bandbase of 04.05.04_G
And bootneuter modified the basebase when it first came on (does this sound right, was this because it chosse bootloader 4.6?)

If you had used ziphone u should have selected BL3.9.
If it was unlocked there would have been a chance it was on 3.9.
Can you plz tell me how u upgraded w/o pwning ur iPhone.I’m on 1.1.4, used ziphone and iTunes 7.7. And what settings you chose in bootneuter. I’m a bit scared in using bootneuter.

I’ve not tried this but people who are on 1.1.4 unlocked with ziphone are just going to installer and installing bootneuter. Then restoring to the custom 2.0FW. I don’t understand why iTunes lets the unofficial FW install seeing as the iPhone’s not pwned.

Inctructions are correct:
At me: Iphone 1g with 1.1.4 Ziphone unlocked.
Downloaded WinPWN and 1.1.4-restore file (yes!), loaded the file in WinPWN and done the pwn. (2min process and everything seems like untouched)
Installed Bootneuter with settings: 3.9 Unlocked.
Loaded iTunes 7.7 and SHIFT+Restore the file from

A few questions…
If I do this:
1) Is there a way to keep all of my contacts, sms, calendar etc. info?
2) Am I going to get a pineapple image every time I start my phone?
3) I’ve heard you can keep the Apple Logo if you create the file in expert mode or something? Can anyon confirm or perhap create this file for a 2G phone 1.1.4 done with ziphone?

1. Yes. Simply do an itunes SYNC prior to following ANY Steps

This like at the top of the page for the firmware says further down that custom logos are disabled and that “Baseband: Containts 4.05.04 unlocked, won’t flash if already unlocked.”

Also, my friend has a 3G with 2.0. I noticed that there is no way for him to turn cell data off without putting the phone into WiFi. WIll this happen with a 2g phone with 2.0? I went into Settings>Network and just erased all of the edge settings so it couldn’t activate. Will this stay the same?

Is this all really necessary?
The iPhone-Dev blog specifically says: “BTW the iPhone does *not* need to be pre-pwned to be able to DFU-restore into a pwned ipsw — it needs to be pre-pwned only for normal recovery-mode restores of custom ipsw’s.”
What’s stopping a Windows user from putting it into DFU mode and just restoring from the downloaded firmware? Shouldn’t that work without anything else?
