2.0 Warning - do not upgrade!

So it is very likely that FW 2.0 is released today or tomorrow by Apple. My warning to you:

DO NOT UPGRADE!

At this point, you can expect 2.0 to be locked and jailed. This means you will only be able to use contract carriers such as AT&T. You will not be able to unlock. The upgrade process will likely be a one-way trip for now also. This means if you “accidentally” upgrade, you will not be able to go back (for now).

Jailbreak: 2.0 may not be jailbroken anytime soon. But even if it is, you will still stand to lose a lot (read further). For now, let’s assume it is not jailbroken and that means you are stuck with whatever Apple and AppStore provides you.

What else will you lose on 2.0? All the apps must be ported. Not one GUI app will work. Not even Jiggy apps. Nothing, notta. This means you lose 500+ 3rd party apps.

What about installer? Nope, there’s no installer 2.0. (Cydia will be available, but there will not be anything to install yet).

What about AppStore?: AppStore is all about purchasing and paying for software. It’s not called iApps or iInstaller. It’s called AppStore. At this point, the best source of free apps will remain to be 1.1.4 and installer.

I already upgraded. What now? You can downgrade to 1.1.4 and bootneuter using the new baseband with 1.1.4. This should get you back to an unlocked state with the new baseband. Downgrade requires DFU mode, restore to 1.1.4, when you get error 1011, 1013, or 1015, use iLiberty+ to boot phone out of recovery mode. Worst case, if the new baseband cannot work with 1.1.4 you could use ienew or such and get back to the 1.1.4 baseband. This would require some steps such as ieraser (3.9) / ienew (4.6) then use bbupdater to program the 1.1.4 baseband back on. We’ll see where we’re at. I’ll make a guide if needed.

Then what should I do? Wait a bit. A solution will surely come. I will update this site with news as I get it. Check back daily.

What about pwnage? While pwnage should work on 2.0, it appears that the latest 2.0 betas have not been jailbroken. We will need to wait and see what happens.

Wow! Thanks for the advice! Maybe you could do the guide for the lost souls that have 1011 error (no wifi, no BT, no baseband, and no way to get out of it… LOL)… Please! Thanks a lot! BTW: only able to restore 1.1.4.

as expected… 1 question tho… what about 2.0 3G OTB… hope it’ll be downgradeable (if thats even a word, but u get my point), a nice solution would be to downgrade to 1.1.4 and be able to get 2.0 apps (if they change)

So I upgraded to beta 2.0… I have access to it via enterprise SDK. Optimizer makes it seem that you can revert from version 2.0, but you will get a “hardware” error once you have the 2.0 firmware loaded.

It is confirmed YOU CANNOT DOWNGRADE FROM 2.0 TO 1.1.4!!! I suggest you do not upgrade to 2.0 until the majority of 3rd party apps have been ported and success has been confirmed by authoritative parties.

As such, the next generation iPhone will not be downgradable. If you don’t presently own an iPhone and want to jail break it BUY NOW! Apple will give you the second version anyways for free.

So I lied. I put it into DFU mode…

I plugged it back in and attempted to restore via itunes. When that failed I kept attempting to use ilibertyx to rebuild the image. Liberty unfortunately didn’t see the phone, and loading itunes didn’t help. Itunes could see the phone, but ilibertyx closed itunes on start.

In the end I had both itunes and iliberty loaded I powered on the phone after shutting it down and when it came back up both detected it. You may have to attempt many loads of itunes and iliberty with a bunch of unplugs and reboots of the phone. It is a pain in the ass, but 2.0 can be reverted.

Sadly after all that hell I have to reload 2.0 beta for dev… thinking about laving 1.1.4 and buy’n a v2 phone once they come out. I still really wish organizer could do what it seems to be able to do with the UI, but that is apple for you.

    Hi all,

I would like to upgrade my iphone version 1.1.4 to 2.0 3G, but after reading all these comments, i would prefer to use my 1.1.4 instead of upgrading the phone. If ever you find a solution for this upgrade, so please keep me informed asap………. PLEASE…….

I ve been browsing the apple store, looks interesting, but needs 2.0+ software to install the applications to my iphone with 1.4 software. So i upgrade my 1.4 to 2.0, success but to my surprise i got a sim lock, so i bought an unlock program to unlock my iphone, but failed. I send to a techincian to unlock for 2.0 software but failed also and only get to downgrade back to 1.4. For all of this ambitious to utilise the applestore application i’ve lost almost $120.00. I just want to confirm with anybody here, is it possible for 1st generation iphone to use 2.0 software?
